The Blade
The Blade is a minimalist sculpture conceived for the Black Rock Desert landscape. It celebrates the transformative power of the sun with a blade-like luminous surface facing the central Playa of the Burning Man festival.
Mediatecture Land Art
The surface is connected to a monolithic seating terrace facing west towards the desert. The terrace is a place for contemplation, offering stunning views of the desert panorama. It provides a shading structure for shelter and relaxation.
As the real sun sets over the horizon, the Blade performs a hyper-natural sunrise from a deep saturated orange to bright midday sunlight. In interactive mode, sensors track people's movement in front of the light surface. This creates fluid light metamorphoses across the screen.
The Blade is illuminated by revolutionary next-generation LED cells that produce a light quality and color rendering similar to natural sunlight while using significantly less energy than conventional lighting technology.
